How Can Hemp Really Help?
Hemp has been used for thousands of years to make rope, clothes, sails, and countless other things. With advancement in technology, it is now possible to build full houses, cars, and create fuel using hemp (Industrial Hemp Facts). Cannabis, which is the female version, also has multiple health benefits that directly contradict a lot of popular studies. Besides being a pain killer and a stress reliever (among other things), it is noted most for being an alternative to conventional cancer treatment methods (Dennis Hill, How Cannabis Oil Works to Kill Cancer Cells)(see 'Other' page). As for non medical use, the prohibition of Cannabis does nothing but set Canada back instead of pushing us forward. (Le Dain Commission of Inquiry into the Non-Medical Use of Drugs)
Hemp (the industrial variant of marijuana) is an extremely robust, versatile, and simple growing plant. The plastic made by hemp is so strong that it had an impact resistance of seven times higher than steel. As for paper, hemp pulp makes a much more durable, longer lasting paper than trees. Hemp matures in four months compared to a tree's twenty years, and in the one acre of hemp, will be four times as much pulp as there would be with an acre of trees. Hemp houses are not popular in north america, but in other places their popularity is soaring. Mostly due to the fact that the houses are self insulating, and are stronger than conventional houses, and cheaper to build. If hemp were fully utilized we could stop drilling for fossil fuels, polluting the earth with (chemical) plastic, the air with toxic fumes, and reap the benefits of having ultra strong structures made from hemp. Currently it is legal to grow hemp in Canada after receiving a permit, but it is in no way being used as widely as it should.
The under utilization of the various uses of hemp have an extreme affect on our environment. We continue to ignore one of earths greatest gifts, only to continue exploiting it in the name of imaginary profit. The widespread usage of hemp could eradicate poverty, create an endless amount of jobs and promote self sustainability.
